About Us
Rooted in Portugal’s historic heartland and guided by a lifelong devotion to the horse, Coudelaria São Luís Rei is a family-owned stud dedicated to the Pura Raza Española (PRE).
We believe that exceptional horses are the product of heritage, environment, and respect three pillars that shape everything we do.
Our mares live year-round on open pasture near Guimarães, raising their foals as nature intended: free to move, to socialise, and to grow strong on the rolling green fields of the Minho.
This quiet start in the open air gives each youngster a sound mind, a generous temperament, and a natural balance before a single step of schooling begins.
Every breeding choice is deliberate: we honour the classical PRE bloodlines; baroque in type, athletic in frame, and notably docile in character. Using our own approved stallions such as Fenómeno XXXV and, when valuable to the programme, select outside sires renowned for performance and purity. The result is a small number of foals each year, raised with individual attention, steady handling, and the highest standards of care.
Though our horses are destined for sport and performance, we see them first as noble companions; future athletes deserve to be treated as such from the very beginning. That conviction informs our feed protocols, veterinary oversight, and the calm daily routines that prepare them, body and mind, for the advanced dressage education that awaits them.
At Coudelaria São Luís Rei we do not aspire to produce many horses, only memorable ones: horses that carry forward the beauty and spirit of the PRE while embodying the quiet elegance that defines our family’s work.
